Book-O-Vision: The Story So Far

With “Breaking Dawn” about to crash into cinemas this is a good time to look back at some of the more recent young adult books that have been given the silver screen treatment.  Young Adult novels are becoming a more and more popular source of inspiration for Hollywood.

Of course, Stephenie Meyer is the obvious poster child for this trend.  Her books, “Twilight, “New Moonand “Eclipse have become huge box office smashes.  Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson have been inviting us to join Team Jacob or Team Edward (which team are you?).

Another promising series of book adaptations started with “I Am Number Four” based on the book by Pittacus Lore.  Alex Pettyfer stars as the mysterious alien John Smith.  He also starred in the remake of the Beauty and the Beast story “Beastly based on the book of the same name by Alex Flinn.

On the less sci-fi/fantasy side of town we have a couple of successful Nicholas Sparks adaptations.  “Dear John gave us Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried as John and Savannah and “The Last Song was a vehicle for Miley Cyrus. Still on the romantic side we had “The Death and Life Charlie St.Cloudbased on the novel by Ben Sherwood and starring Zac Efron.

The future looks sunny for young adult movies and YAPS will keep you updated on what is being released and what is in development.  So watch this space……
